We lose our mailbox after all

Maybe it’s unusual for a neighborhood to rally around a mailbox, but that is what Story Hill did when the US Postal Service threatened to remove it in 2006.

Flyers went out to residents decrying the potential loss of the little blue box on W. Bluemound Rd. and N. Story Pkwy. And yes, the Postal Service backed down.

That was then, this is now. Victory is fleeting. We won the battle, but lost the war. Etc., etc.

The Postal Service is back, and it wants our mailbox. So long, sweet friend! Your door was always open to us!

Story Hill bicycle/pedestrian safety event this evening

The city’s Bicycle/Pedestrian Task Force is hosting a pedestrian safety event at N. 50th St. and W. Bluemound Rd. today at 5 pm.  The event will highlight safe crosswalk activities, including informing drivers regarding state law.

Story Hillers: New proposal for greenhouse site; meeting scheduled

The latest home designs proposed by developer Sheila Firari for the former greenhouse site at 5033 W. Bluemound Rd. will be the subject of a neighborhood meeting at 7:15 p.m. Thursday evening, Sept. 25, at Hawley Rd. Elementary School, 5610 W. Wisconsin Ave. The meeting is being hosted by Ald. Michael Murphy.

Come give your opinions!

Firari now is proposing to build three two-family side-by side condos. The immediate neighbors are generally supportive of the latest incarnation, according to Firari and a quick neighbor check by Milwaukee Rising.

Can it be that this site will finally be developed? Here are renderings of the proposed buildings. Click on the pics to see larger versions.
