JS gives up too much in canning Carlson

Stuart Carlson, having been handed his walking papers by the JS, says this, according to the Business Journal (subscription required for the full story).

“It’s not only disappointing for me personally, but I think it’s content that readers like and they’re going to miss.”

Stuart is right. The paper is losing top talent — people like Mary Zahn, Avi Lank and Stuart Carlson.

Avi and Mary took the buyout. Stuart got booted.

What an absolutely stupid, moronic, sad decision by the newspapaper’s management. Carlson is one of the best cartoonists in the country.

So George Stanley was only kidding with us — yet again — when he told Pundit Nation that “We will focus our cuts as much as possible on areas where folks can get similar information of equal quality from other sources.”

Yeah, George — there’s so many places we can find top-notch local political cartoons.

Meanwhile, publisher Betsy Brenner says that Milwaukee is a good place for newspapers and, by the way,  the JS might eliminate a 16-member advertising design staff and outsource the work to India.

Way to show the love.

  1. No, I guess he gets to stay while a really thoughtful conservative, Mike Nichols, goes.
